Welcome to MEEAWhat is MEEA?The Missouri Environmental Education Association (MEEA) is a not-for profit membership-based professional organization that serves environmental educators. We are teachers, students, youth group leaders, volunteers, interpreters and others engaged in environmental education. We represent educational and technical professionals from schools, universities and colleges, not-for-profit organizations, government agencies, business and industry. We are citizens interested in understanding the connections between built and natural enviroments, the economy and society. Our focus on professional development means we are well-prepared to foster the development of an environmentally literate citizenry to lead Missouri towards a clean and healthy future. What is Environmental Education (EE)?It is fair and accurate information and critical thinking to solve community problems or concerns. It is a non-regulatory resource management tool. It is education for public health. It is about economics, about communities and about environment. How would Membership Benefit You?The annual conference provides up-to-date information on EE and opportunities to network with other EE providers The certification program ensures members are well-prepared to deal with the challenges and opportunities in EE A quarterly newsletter summarizes professional development opportunities and events of interest in Missouri A listserv shares news about EE at the national and international level A searchable database of local, state and regional groups helps members connect with other EE resources How does your membership benefit EE in Missouri?Your active involvement in certification, the conference, the environmental literacy working group, marketing, providing workshops and other activities helps build a strong and responsive network of environmental educators in Missouri - advancing the Vision of an environmentally literate citizenry. *The 1996 conference (at which MEEA was officially launched) was planned by an MDC Chair and a Steering Committee. The 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 conferences were planned by an OEE Co-Chair, a MEEA Co-Chair and a Steering Committee consisting of professionals from around Missouri. In 2003 MEEA had a "Celebration of Success" recognizing efforts around the state. From 2004 to the present, MEEA has organized the conference with support from the University of Missouri, the Department of Conservation and the Department of Natural Resources. |

Feel free to contact any MEEA officer, board member, or committee chairperson if you have a question or advice to offer our young organization. We are warm, friendly and supportive people who are accessible and who welcome the opportunities we have to share our ideas about EE with everyone. We are not a vast bureaucracy and we are ready to help serve the interests of EE wherever possible.
