What awards does MEEA offer?
Outstanding Service Award to an Individual
This award is presented to an individual to recognize his or her efforts
to promote and provide EE leadership. Criteria: This MEEA member must
have a minimum of 3 years experience in the field of EE and have made
a significant contribution to EE. He or she should be known for one or
more of the following:
- Dedicated service in the field of EE;
- Contributions in EE (e.g. developed curriculum, research, innovations,
publications, legislation);
- Outstanding environmental action, contribution, or stance in supporting
EE.

Certificate of Environmental Education Service for:
- Organization (Nonprofit)

One certificate is presented to an organization, agency, or business
that promotes EE and supports the purpose and mission of MEEA. Criteria:
This organization, agency, or business must have made a significant contribution
to EE. It does not have to be a MEEA member, but should be known for one
or more of the following:
- Contributions in EE (e.g. developed curriculum, research, innovations,
publications, legislation);
- Creating a standard practice of EE within the organization (e.g. educating
staff on important issues, putting into practice the use of environmentally-friendly
products);
- Supporting other educational entities through collaboration or grant
funding.
Recipients of the Environmental Education Service Award to an Organization
Community Award (New)
This award is presented to a grass-roots group (comprised of two or more
individuals) to recognize the group’s commitment to and success
at improving the quality of community education and/or the local environment.
Criteria:
- The group has successfully developed and implemented an outstanding
community-based project that has positively enhanced the health of the
environment/community and involves some kind of community education
and/or mobilization;
- The group is not a for-profit enterprise;
- Individuals need not be members of MEEA.

Outstanding Lifetime Service Award
This award is presented to an individual to recognize his or her long-standing
efforts to promote and provide EE leadership as a lifelong pursuit. Criteria:
- This MEEA member must have a minimum of 20 years of experience in
the field of EE, and have demonstrated lifelong contributions to EE;
- He or she should be known for a combination of the above listed criteria
for Outstanding Service;
- A non-MEEA member may be nominated if he or she demonstrates the listed
criteria and his or her work supports MEEA’s mission.

2006 INTERNATIONAL YOUNR ECO HEROES AWARDS
Action For Nature is proud to announce its 2006 International Young Eco
Hero Awards. Fourteen winners, aged 10 to 16, were selected by a Judges
Panel for their outstanding environmental achievements. Read about these
inspiring young people. The next application deadline is February 28,
2007.

Earth Day lesson idea - combine creative writing with science!
The Air & Waste Management Association is celebrating 100 years in
2007 with their Annual Conference and Exhibition in Pittsburgh, PA. The
Education Council, Women's Professional Development Committee, is sponsoring
an essay contest for high school students with cash prizes. The topic
is "The Next 100 Years: Women's Contributions to Environmental Sustainability."

STARBUCKS GIVING VOICE GRANTS
This Starbucks grant program is for youth that integrate literacy with
personal and civic action in the communities where they live. Grants range
from $5,000-$20,000.

ORGANIC SCHOOL GARDEN AWARDS
This annual contest, sponsored by the Rodale Institute, is for schools
(K-12) that use their organic gardens as a learning tool. Three winning
schools receive cash prizes of $250, $500, and $1000.

TOSHIBA AMERICA FOUNDATION GRANTS
Applications for grants under $5,000 are accepted year-round. Check the
Web site for grades K-6 and 7-12 application rules.
Deadline for grants over $5,000: February 1st or August 1st
The Toshiba America Foundation encourages teacher-led, K-12 classroom-based
programs, projects, and activities that have the potential to improve
classroom experiences in science, mathematics, and technology.

EARTHWATCH EDUCATOR FELLOWSHIP AWARDS
Education Awards awarded through a competitive application process,
are considered based on available funding in the applicant's geographic
region, financial need, and the benefits that would result from participating
on an Earthwatch expedition. Decisions are made on applications beginning
in January and ending when funds are exhausted, typically by late spring.
Elementary, middle, and high school educators and administrators of any
discipline are eligible to apply. Applications accepted on a rolling basis.

NATIOINAL GARDENING ASSOCIATION MANTIS AWARD PROGRAM
Schools can be awarded garden equipment for garden programs that are
charitable or educational in nature. Equipment includes Mantis tiller/cultivators

LOWE'S EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION GRANTS AND OUTDOOR CLASSROOM GRANTS
Grants for construction, school cleanups, landscaping, outdoor science

CAPTAIN PLANET FOUNDATION GRANTS
Deadline: Last day of March, June, September and December continually
The Captain Planet Foundation provides grants to support hands-on environmental
projects. School and community groups may apply. The objective of the
Foundation is to encourage innovative programs that empower children and
youth around the world to work individually and collectively to solve
environmental problems in their neighborhoods and communities. For more
