Professional Development
Workshops may require advance registration, may have fees
and may include opportunities to earn college credit, in
which case there will be a separate tuition fee. Workshops
are grouped by region and then listed by date. Listing
includes date, workshop title, certification category in (1,
2 or 3), the location and nearest town or city, and a source
for more information. If there are no listings within your
region, check neighboring regions for nearby
workshops.
If you would like to have a
workshop included, please send all of the same information
to me. Please also include the county and a proposed MEEA
Certification Category - 1, 2 or 3.
Category 1 workshops must
provide a manual or materials that support the workshop
objectives, contain significant content, have age
appropriate instructional activities, and offer suggestions
for integration with Language Arts, Social Studies, Science,
Math, Art and/or Music. If your workshop has already been
certified for college credit, or has been certified by
another outdoor, naturalist, environmental or interpretive
program, it qualifies for Category 1. Please include
information on where it has been certified. If it has not
been certified, click
here for a form to
have your workshop reviewed or contact Jan Weaver at
weaverjc@missouri.edu for assistance.
Category 2 workshops are
structured out-of-door experiences, led by a qualified
instructor. An individual workshop can count for up to 10
hours of certification.
Category 3 workshops provide
information on the theory, practice and history of
environmental education or cover current issues or concerns,
and provide access to EE resources. This category includes
conferences and seminars. An individual workshop should be
between 2 and 10 hours.
