Jan Weaver Executive Director Jan Weaver shares information on the Missouri Green Schools program

Missouri Green Schools

MEEA started a Missouri Green Schools (MGS) program in 2016. The goal of this free program is to help schools 1) understand the benefits of "green" schools, 2) assess their current "green" accomplishments, 3) recognize and celebrate those accomplishments, 4) identify next steps they can take, and 5) identify resources to help them with next steps.

The program has three sections aligned with the US Department of Education's Green Ribbon Schools (USGRS) program:

In our first year, we had nine schools apply. Five were recognized as Missouri Green Ribbon Schools and had their nominations forwarded to the USGRS program. Three of these were nationally recognized as US Green Ribbon Schools. All nine schools are featured in the video above.

Nominations for the 2018 program are open now. Visit to find out how your school can become a Missouri Green School!

Special to MEEA Members: NAAEE puts on virtual conference after Puerto Rico Hurricane cancels the real event.

Normally in October, MEEA sends me and our current president elect to the Annual North American Environmental Education Association conference. This year the conference was going to be in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but Hurricane Irma put the kibosh on that. Instead, NAAEE has organized a virtual conference featuring some of the power points that would have been presented, with the various panels and speakers participating alongside to answer questions. You can check out the presentations at

Coming Up in the Next Month or So ...

Be sure and check out the webinars, they count for Certification too!
